Track-only GT2 RS derivative the ultimate 991 911 before the new 992 arrives
Porsche has revealed a track-only version of the most extreme 991-generation model, called the GT2 RS Clubsport. In a similar vein to the new-age 935 that was revealed earlier in the year, the GT2 RS Clubsport promises to provide an even more thrilling on-track experience.
Without the need to meet on-road homologation, the GT2 RS Clubsport features a raft of new carbonfibre components and other track paraphernalia, increasing downforce, while reducing weight. New additions include a carbonfibre motorsport inspired rear wing, larger front intakes with integrated headlights, a carbon roof with integrated escape hatch, carbon bonnet and engine covers and a racing spec fuel cell.
Inside the stripped-out cabin is an FIA-approved roll cage, single racing bucket seat and carbonfibre racing steering wheel with a colour display behind borrowed from the GT3 R race car. At 1390kg, the Clubsport is 80kg lighter than the road-going GT2 RS.
Powering the GT2 RS Clubsport is the same water-cooled 3800cc flat-six engine as the road-going GT2 RS. Fitted with two turbochargers, Vario-Cam Plus valve-lift switchover and variable camshaft adjustment, the Clubsport produces the same 515kW, too. Connected to the engine is the same seven-speed PDK dual-clutch gearbox.
To keep all that power in check are a PSM stability management set-up and an ABS system, both of which can be adjusted manually on the centre console via a pair of rotary controls. This can delicately adjust the amount of intervention by these systems and has been a feature on racing cars for a while now, and has also been seen on previous generations of Lotus models.
Completing the package are a set of 10.5×18-inch centre-locking forged alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin racing rubber. These wheels and tyres are a full two and three inches smaller than the road car, instead being borrowed from the GT3 R cup car.
The GT2 RS Clubsport will be limited to 200 units for €405,000 ($630K AUD).
